Leaping

Wednesday, February 29, 2012
It’s Leap Day, and the word “leap” is sticking out today.  The strides we’ve made (especially in the last few years) are large & long.  Although sometimes tiring, we’re so very proud of all our work and so very grateful for your support.  Thank you!!!

In other news, here is a beautiful Chicago wedding from this past November.  When I met Anna, I thought she was a designer.  Her ideas were so beautiful & well thought out.  Mix-matched metallics & crystal embellishments contrasted with soft blooms and deep textures.  Enjoy!

Anna’s bouquet, above, is rich in texture.

The following photos are dreamy, and all from Pen Carlson.

Anne & David’s Americana vision was right up our alley.  Simple and sweet, with the prettiest colors.  Also, a little nod sent over to Lily Red Studio who designed all the gorgeous paper goods.
Congratulation Anne & David!!!!

Indie Wed with Fleur & Greatest Expectations

Friday, February 3, 2012

A week ago we participated in Indie Wed, a really fun bridal show in Chicago.  Fleur shared a booth with our dear friends Greatest Expectations, basing our look on a wintry theme.  We were thinking snowy castles with crystals and lace.  Blues, ivory, cream and grays with touches of a natural woodland brown.  We stayed away from the rustic trend, and kept it warm with glow and sparkle.  Our lovely friend Jaclyn Simpson took some wonderful photos for us!

Caleb and are are honestly quite a little camera shy, we think the booth behind us (also featuring Sugar Chic Designs and Ruby the Fox) is way better looking.

The neutral colors make us really so happy to be around.  And we were very excited that so many attendees enjoyed the display, commenting on the cotton accents.

The overall look was a little bit magical and a little bit elegant.

Our bridal bouquet was wrapped with a maypole ribbon trimming.

A few bleached peacock feathers and lovely lace ribbon and delicate doilies were scattered among the collection of blooms and candles.

A crystal canopy draped across the doors that Davey and I picked up from The Rebuilding Exchange.  We painted them and made them stand on their own, creating an intimate backdrop.  We’ve really been into magical moments lately.  Giraffes wearing bonnets, fancy tea parties with a fox and a loon, children’s books and mysterious mirrors.

It was a fun day, a long day, an inspiring day and an overall great day.  We loved meeting so many couples, hanging out with our friends in the industry and just getting down with some creativity.  Thank you to everyone who visited our Indie Wed booth!!!!

~~~
These days we’re catching up on a lot of paper work (right.., it’s not all creativity over here, sadly), and starting to sharpen our pruners for valentine’s day.  Reds and rubies, blush and fuchsia, chocolate and plum.  Garden roses and sprays, tulips and ranunculus.  We’ve ordered our favorite floral goodies and are anticipating the shipments arriving.  Whether you’re looking to bring out your inner vampire with blood red roses and dark accents, or your soft and romantic side with ranunculus and gloriosa lilies in milk glass, it’s going to be pretty no matter what.
Winter inspired shoot
Wednesday, February 1, 2012
During December we were very lucky to create some flowers under the design of Katie from Jayne Weddings.  It was a dreamy, almost sad vision.  Simply Jessie caught the moments so beautifully.  Today it was featured in Ruffled Blog!
Below is one of our very most favorite images!  The gown was designed by Mignonette Bridal.
Above, the beautiful and slightly dramatic paper design is by Ruby the Fox.
Thank you so much to everyone for all their hard work on this afternoon!  It turned out so beautiful!
Something blue
Tuesday, January 17, 2012
We *love* the color blue over here.  All of us.  We daydream about varying shades of turquoise, ocean, periwinkle and stormy blue.  And we were SO excited to use our vintage, blue glass vase collection in this lovely September wedding!  Thank you SO much to Veronica Hinojosa Photography for these gorgeous photos!!
Ain’t got no sunshine
Thursday, January 12, 2012
Today is the first snow of the season, and we all are welcoming it with wide arms and big smiles.  It’s pretty today.  It makes us want to drink champagne and eat marshmallows with chocolate.  The roundabout across the street is covered in fluffy goodness, and it’s been a relaxing day enjoying the view while we work on proposals, updates and emails.  And just to contrast the grey and white afternoon, we thought we would brighten up the mood a teeny bit (for those of you raising your fist to the falling snowflakes) with a beautiful wedding from this past summer.  Enjoy these gorgeous photos taken at West Loop Studio by Jamie Davis of Greenhouse Loft!
The West Loop Studio no longer exists as a wedding venue, but was closed for quite an exciting reason.  The amazing people who owned/ran the space (Steve & Jamie) just opened the doors to The Greenhouse Loft! It’s a very unique venue, housed in a sustainable community, promoting eco-friendly weddings.  And if that’s not enough to catch your attention, take a look at the space right HERE! And they’re willing to take the photos for you (info HERE!).   We’re looking so forward to be working with them in the future.  Congratulations!!!
Megan & Mike
Tuesday, January 3, 2012
This past October was one of my favorite weddings to date.  Yes, I said it.  I know I should be non-biased, but this wedding, the family, the vendors, the venue.., everything was just great.  I was so thrilled to be a part of Megan & Mike’s day, AND I’m even more excited to have become friends with them as well!  Megan is the talented, lead designer of Ruby the Fox.  Custom paper goods and lovely design.  You can see her work at Indie Wed, the end of this month!
Until then, enjoy these images of her wedding taken by Clary Photo.  I’ve admired Clary’s work for quite a while, and was just thrilled to be able to finally work with her!  Enjoy!!
This wedding was also featured on Ruffled, and you can see even more images HERE!
Thank you again to everyone who participated in this gorgeous wedding, and congratulations once again to Megan & Mike!!
Vintage Glam
Thursday, December 15, 2011
Caleb designed a stunning wedding this past August, and it was just featured today on Elizabeth Anne Designs! Click HERE to see all the *amazing* photos from Braxton of Jeremy Lawson Photography.
(We love those bridesmaid dresses!!!)
Below are some photos that we took (Not nearly as lovely, and some are a bit blurry) of the prep & day of the wedding.  Let me tell you, this wedding day was one going down in the books.  As soon as we finished loading up the van, the sky turned black and a monsoon came down upon us.  Streets flooded and viaducts were impossible to navigate around, but we made it.  The Fleur team was out of sight this day, and I’m still so proud of them all when I think back to it.
This wedding was an enchanted garden.  A mid-summer night’s dream.  Trailing amaranthus & jasmine.  Garden roses and three varieties of hydrangea.  Lovely pops of coral tucked among sage and ivory.
When I look at Brittany’s bridal bouquet, I think it belongs in a secret garden.  The kind where giraffes and gazelles walk around in lovely suits and gowns, sipping tea and nibbling crumpets.  Of course, they’re wearing top hats & bonnets, with hand gloves & canes.
Floral details were everywhere.
The ceremony was dramatic with candles on the floor, candleabras atop pillars  & hanging votives at the entrance to the aisle.
And then there were the centerpieces.  Crystals, mercury glass, pillar candles, crystal cut glass vases, all adding sparkle & shimmer to the decadent floral design.
They used mix-matched wine, water & champagne glasses on the tables, which looked even more stunning.  We wouldn’t mind having a few of those at our own dining room table.
There were three styles of arrangements, all surrounded by vintage and mercury glass vases.  The blooms included dusty miller, charming babe spray roses, Juliette garden roses, astrantia and more.
(I think this one, above & below, is my favorite style of them all)
~~~

Thank you so much to Caleb for designing everything so beautifully!  To Greatest Expectations for coming on board and making everything run smoothly and perfect, J & L Catering for the beautiful table settings & Architectural Artifacts for just being so good looking!

“I want to” vs “I have to”

Thursday, December 15, 2011

This evening I’ve been attempting to clean up my iphoto.  Edit a few photos that might have been a little blurry as we quickly try to snap them before the party starts.  Sometimes I feel like my iphoto is the land of lost floral images.  I take so.many.pictures.  I still need to learn so much more about the camera, too.  Which reminds me, not only do I need to make time to sit down & figure out the lenses, the rest of my to-do list is enormous at the moment.

*Mail holiday cards.  Right.  First, however, I need stamps (Ordered those online today – no one needs to make an unnecessary trip to the post office this time of year).

*Finish making Xmas gifts.  Okay, have most of the fabric cut out, at least.  I’m almost there.  Maybe a couple of these will be New Year’s gifts.

*Write Claire.  I started  letter!  Handwritten letters take time.

*Accounting.  Well, frankly this one never goes away.

*Hang the lights & make ornaments for our little Xmas tree.  We’ve had the tree for almost a week.  Our first one just shed its needles, and quickly we realized it had been sprayed green.  Add no fragrance to the sad Charlie Brown tree, and I was a little pretty bummed about it.  Last week Davey surprised me by bringing home a new, tiny tree.  Its scent is so perfect and now it needs its glow.   Actually, I want to do this, there just hasn’t been enough time.

I’d so much rather be thinking about all the things I want to be doing.  Such as planning a vacation (Paris? Wisconsin?  Who cares where it is?!), practicing the banjo (Davey wrote a new song out for me, but I haven’t had the time to practice), be sitting somewhere warm & not rainy (Truthfully I can’t complain about this weather.  It’s 50 degrees in December).  I can get so much more used to the “I want to do” lists, rather than the “I have to do” lists.

~~~
Back in September we worked at Salvatore’s & managed to snap a couple of photos.
~~~

This one above is the bridesmaid bouquet.

Last night I started reading a book about the Chicago parks called City in a Garden.  There are so many wonderful photos, and a simple little bit of history.  I’m excited to be that nerd who rattles off information as we drive through Humboldt, Douglas or Lincoln Park.  Chicago’s parks are very well designed and quite beautiful.  It makes me very happy to read all about them.

Unrelated, did you know we have a Pinterest page?  It’s a lot of fun, and you can watch our style boards as we plan for 2012 & 2013 weddings.  Check it out right HERE.

Hope you’re enjoying a relaxing evening!
