Quite honestly, this was the best Thanksgiving ever.

Being that I’m a ridiculously sentimental person, all day while cooking my thoughts rested with those dearest to me.

And then we ate.

~~~
~~~

~~~
It started with family, friends & conversation.  Moved into a meal and digesting with Wii bowling.
And ended with some red wine, guitar strums and banjo picks.
Now, I’m about to leave for Michigan.  For my birthday.  It won’t be snowing, as I hoped, but there will indeed be hot chocolate, rocking chairs on the porch, long walks along the lake, monopoly and fireplaces and fried chicken with champagne.
Hope you all enjoyed a lovely and relaxing Thanksgiving!
Thai food
Wednesday, November 24, 2010
Eating thai food that’s been delivered tonight because I’m too busy making homemade pumpkin dip, beets with pecans and feta, sauteed spinach, mashed potatoes with creme fraiche, brussel sprouts with pancetta, stuffing with pork sausage & apples, and herb brined turkey.  Yeah.
The centerpiece is simple.  A birch trunk on the table among berries and pillar candles.  Nothing too fancy, in the palette of honey, ivory with champagne and Tiffany blue accents.  Excited for family to come over to dinner.
Grocery shoppin’
Monday, November 22, 2010
Woke up to a thunder storm this morning, which paralleled my mood.
This is my attempt at snapping out of it.
Making my tea and planning the grocery list for dinner this Thursday.
Homemade pumpkin dip. Spice cured turkey. Beet, pecan & feta salad. Brussel sprouts & pancetta.
OH SNAP!
(This one is just chillin’)
I don’t think I’m going to decorate the table with many flowers.  Lots of candles in ivory, champagne and honey, maybe some vines and succulents scattered around.   Blue napkins finished with ribbon.  Blue and white squash.  Leaves.
A stitch in time
Sunday, November 21, 2010
I’m sitting in one of my favorite cafe’s today working on six (!!!) estimates.  It never stops this time of year.  At first I couldn’t focus, but two cups of green tea, a whole lotta Prince playing on their stereo and color palettes running through my mind.., I’m unstoppable!  Seriously ladies, you’re all going to love this!
But with a medium caffeine high right now, I need to take a quick break.  I thought I’d tell you about what I’m planning on making for dinner.  Roasted butternut & acorn squash, onions, potato and garlic over quinoa with feta and grapes.  And a splash of lemon juice.  And a glass of red wine, or perhaps prosecco.  The prosecco only because I’m starting to get REALLY excited for my birthday coming up.
Also, I wanted to take a break to share these pretty pictures with you.  They were taken by Alexia, and feature her absolutely darling cross stitch pieces which now adorn our front window in the storefront.  Handmade and raw sugar sweet, these are some of my favorite things right now.  I’m just sayin’.., holiday gift??  Gah!  I think one is going to end up on our walls at home…
Also, another thing to note, I’m really into this weather.  It’s perfect for drinking spicy manhattens.  That is going to be my reward tonight after all this typing.  Screw the wine and prosecco!
Sade just came on.  Time to get back to work.  Sweet.
Margaret & Jake
Thursday, November 18, 2010
What can be more gorgeous than elegant orchids?  Orchids that spill over in bouquets and candelabra centerpieces.  Fashionably combined palettes of navy and fuchsia and purple.  A little bit of fantasy meets a little bit of old school Chicago.  That’s where Margaret & Jake’s wedding comes in.
I simply love phalaenopsis orchids.  As bouts, centerpieces, bridal bouquets.  They are something special and something quite grand.  And they know it.
This color combination is absolutely perfect for the Union League Club.  Navy blue accents with fuchsia and white.  The bridesmaids carried clusters of stock, orchids and looped flax leaves.
Margaret carried a stunning bouquet dripping with phalaenopsis, dendrobium and cattleya orchids.
The head table was set with dramatic candelabras flanking the bridal party.
I can’t even begin to tell you how much I enjoyed making them!
And the tall guest table centerpieces were laden with orchids and hanging votive candles, set atop monstera foliage for a completed touch.
Also, notice an orchid floret sat on each menu card, distributing color across the table.
Amanda Hein really captured the beauty of these arrangements and Ali Phillips was there to coordinate it all into a stunning day!
And the low centerpieces featured lush blooms of color surrounding a floating candle.
Congratulations to Margaret & Jake, our wonderful neighbors!!!
Julia was so much fun to work with.  I love the Chinese touches of red and gold, and the glamour of the blooms and decor.  This room was glowing like you can’t image.
Congratulations to Julia & Christian!!
So, whatyadoing?
Tuesday, November 16, 2010
We’ve had a whole lotta this going on these days.  Busy!  Busy!  Busy!
Claire’s bridal bouquet from this past weekend complete with succulents, china berry, ranunculus, dusty miller and more.
Peonies, ranunculus, anemones…
Our newest candle line, Linnea’s Lights!  Hand poured by Mother & Daughter.  Amber is my favorite scent.  It’s creamy and sweet.  Perhaps I’m biased because I’ve worn amber oil on and off for the past 12 years.
Saipua Soap, made in Brooklyn, another Mother & Daughter team.  Saipua is the Finnish word for soap.  I’m Finnish.  The daughter of this duo owns a flower shop.  We felt it was meant to be.
calla bliss
Saturday, November 13, 2010
A quick little wrap up from a wedding a week or so ago at the Hotel Palomar.
You can’t be more classy than a calla lily.
And the very simple and minimal chuppah they stood under.
They have very chic chandeliers.
