Five weddings, one weekend.

Tuesday, June 29, 2010

This past weekend was one of those never ending weekends, but I prefer to call them character builders.  It was long, but staff was amazing and here are just a *few* of the highlights.  And you can see a little bit of that barn yard accent that went in.  Yes, I am crazy.  I decide to remodel the storefront mid-June during wedding-crazy-town.  I treated myself to a pedicure this afternoon on my day off.  My toes are now a coral color that makes me happy.

I can’t boast enough about these photos from Dean.

These are the professional photos from Therese and Dan’s wedding just a few weeks back.  They are a m a z in g.

This wedding was also featured on Style Me Pretty, so please take a peek!

Yellow peonies = bliss!!!

Dan’s bout had a little cotton added into it.

Those might be the most comfortable bridesmaid shoes ever.

OH!!!!!!

Alison & Geoffrey

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

I’m taking a little break from updating proposals right now.  10:45pm and I’m still not finished with everything, my feet are achey and I’m becoming sleepy (we rearranged the storefront yesterday and today, photos soon!).

My dear friend Kristina Carter just sent these images over to me so I thought it was a great chance to procrastinate as well as inspire myself with some ideas.  The wedding took place at The Columbus Park Refectory, and was last September.

lavender & spirit

Saturday, June 19, 2010

CONGRATULATIONS!  Lincoln and Dana!!

About an hour ago a massive, ominous cloud approached overhead, filled with lightening and abnormally colored haze.

It was humid in this apartment, and I was salty I had to work late – again – knowing I will not catch up.

Admittedly I was a little cranky towards the end of the day. Chicago traffic is a drag.  My iced coffee made me feel crazy (back to iced tea it is!).  The pressure change in the air was annoying.  But then I reread an email from a bride whose wedding will occur in the autumn.  She wrote  about comfort, memory and closeness. And mentioned thankfulness and genuine kindness.

I snapped out of my mood.

Sometimes I forget that one of the reasons being a florist is one of the best jobs in the world is spirit.

Thank you.

P.S.  This storm is kind of amazing tonight.  I have a candle and lighter near by just in case of a black out.

P.P.S  A little lavender ice creams always cures a sour mood.

Sunshine in a bloom

Saturday, June 19, 2010

The air is steamy in this apartment.

Mid-June weddings are keeping me on my toes.

And so are these beauties.  Giant yellow peonies.  A pure burst of floral sunshine.

If I owe you an email or update, it is coming soon.  I promise.

Please do not forget to wish the Dads, Poppas, Fathers and all the rest a good day this Sunday.

Changing the city’s anthropology to something more a bit soft…

Monday, June 14, 2010

It is my one and only day of the week off.  And even then I still check a few emails and update posts.  It’s a lazy, mid-June day, early evening and a little humid, a little chilly.  After working an incredible engagement session and photo shoot out in the country on Saturday (more about THAT joy a little bit later), I am reworking the entire design of our apartment.  I need to pick up some french blue paint.  And definitely need to buy a couple of ceiling hooks…  I’m a little giddy with all the ideas running though my head right now!!!  Oh, the inspiration!!!

Which brings me to this.

Chicago weddings are outstanding.  City weddings in general are just beautiful.  However, I’m a country girl at heart.  I was raised in Chicago, but spent most of my summers in Michigan with family.  I remember sitting in my grandparent’s cottage on the lake and thinking that one day when I have a home, I would sew curtains dotted with little yellow flowers across the fabric, and own a glass door cabinet filled with a hodgepodge of ceramic dishes and vases.  I have both of these things now (although the curtains are a little more saffron).

So I was thrilled to work on a wedding this stunning.

It was simply the most perfect combination of vintage, country charm meeting contemporary city elegance.  Taking place at Prairie Productions & planned with Lori from Lola Event Productions, it glowed!!  Thorsen Photography will have some amazing photos for us soon, but I couldn’t wait to share these!

We combined a mixture of vintage milk glass vases with clear cylinder glass vases and used ivories, blushes, corals and yellows to create a field of amazing color across the room.

All the vases were placed atop wall paper, and we tucked rosemary into each menu card.

Now after looking at all of these images, I am going into my home studio and pulling out fabric.  I have a wonderful quilted wall hanging idea that I’ve been going back and forth on for some time.  And if there is time, those blueberries in the fridge are turning into a crisp.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

New things

Wednesday, June 9, 2010

These are some of our new journals created by Night Owl Paper Goods.

Poppy pods & garden roses.

Candles that smell delicious.

We’re remodeling the store front space (building a wall, moving things around and all that good stuff).

And simultaneously I decided it was a good idea to paint the studio space and remodel up there, too.  Think french barn.

If I still have to wait a few years before I buy that barn, I will simply bring it to me.

Darling Fleur’s first class!

Friday, June 4, 2010

Last night was the first installment of Darling Fleur’s premier floral class!  It was a wonderful success with six lovely ladies!

We’ll have some images from Doug McGoldrick soon, but here are some I snapped.  Lots of photos will be on the blog shortly!

Just some of our selection of blooms (See those succulents?  Expect a Summer Succulent class coming up!).

Tipsy Cake provided the most adorable cupcakes!!  And delicious bars were provided by Kind Snacks.

These photos are my arrangement, this morning.  Everyone created such a unique piece and they were all simply delightful!

And you can see a little bit of our vase fabric treatment here, too…

Doug is creating a wonderful photo montage.  You can see a similar one on Hello, Darling’s website to know what to expect.

Thank you so much to everyone for being a part of class, we can’t wait for the next one!  Details will be coming soon!

Fleur de la yummy

Friday, June 4, 2010

We’ve been working on fun little projects.  And apparently so has Goose Island.   They created a very delicious beer called Fleur.  And how VERY sweet it was for a friend who works over there to send me two bottles!  I’m a nerd.  I like things when they’re called Fleur.  I can’t help it, I get it from my family.  For example when I was a little girl and my Nan told me that my “color” was green (because of “Kelly Green”) and I was upset because at the time my favorite color was blue.  Ironically, now my favorite color is all shades of green.

Infused with hibiscus, this beer makes me happy.  Typically I prefer a good glass of red or a strong Manhattan when the air has a chill, now I am becoming a fan of floral infused hops and barley.  I want to brew beer!!!  Right after I finish those two quilts, knitting the cat bed, painting the studio space, sewing the rest of the curtains, finishing my book, planning my Indian themed dinner party and send out the last two proposals and 4 updates.  Oh, and start a new inventory list.  This summer is going to be great.
